Social networking.

This article discusses the dangers that social networking sites can cause for it's users. It highlights the story of a woman called Natalie Blanchard. She was on disability benefits after suffering from serious depression for a long time. Blanchard posted photographs of herself at a beach birthday party on her facebook profile, this proved to be very problematic for her. As everybody including Blanchard thought that these photographs would be harmless she couldn't foresee that the company she received benefits from viewed the facebook profiles of its customers. The company after seeing these pictures deemed her healthy saying she couldn't be depressed and although she fought her case they discontinued her benefits.

This article shows the dangers of posting information on social networking sites that can seem harmless but can be used by people to manipulate the user. Blanchard set her facebook profile for private viewing only but this company seemed to still be able to view it. I think this is trying to make the point that although you might believe your information is safe when you post it, it can still be viewed by people that you would not necessarily want to have access to your private life. It proves just how dangerous posting private information on networks that can be seen by anybody is. This should be used as a warning to anybody using these social netowrking sites to protect their private information and not to post any pictures or information about themselves that could be harmful to the person or their reputation.
